FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

You can do these movements before bed, in the morning before school, before an outing, etc. There is no set time exactly. The benefit of these movements is for sensory regulation, to get your child’s body in that “just right” state so they are able to enter situations and environments feeling calm and regulated. It just so happens that a body that is calm and regulated is also a body that is best prepared for sleep.

This is meant to be a positive addition to your nightly routine and should not be daunting. You certainly do not have to do every single movement. If you do, it might add 10-20 minutes to your routine. But if you want to pick and choose a few of your child’s favorites that you notice a positive impact from, that will absolutely still help. These movements are laid out in a specific order, so if you do pick & choose some, be sure to keep them in the same order that they are in the book to avoid dysregulation.

Yes, you absolutely can! However, it is also possible that it could take several nights for you to notice a positive difference. It depends on your child. There is never a “one size fits all” for everyone, so what works well for one child may be different from what works well for yours. Keep a close eye on your child as you work through the movements, and if you notice some dysregulation, stop the activity right away. You can always try again on a different day to see if it works better. Don’t give up!
These activities CAN (and do!) work WONDERS. -
Signs of overstimulation can be: pain, dizziness, anxiety, fear, panic, irritability, over-excitement, loss of focus, inability to follow instructions, difficulty falling asleep. These activities are meant to be calm and enjoyable. You will notice a huge difference in your children if these activities work for them.

ALL AGES! I’m a huge proponent for sensory regulation, grounding, and functional movement. Although this book is specifically geared toward younger children, getting involved and doing the movements with your child(ren) can turn into regulation for you, too! (And can be a fantastic connection activity for you all!)
